Mark Sundberg, D.D.S.,
Originally from the Midwest, Dr. Sundberg completed his Associate of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees prior to graduating from the University of Iowa, College of Dentistry in 1984.
In search of adventure, Dr. Sundberg joined the Army Dental Care System and promised his wife a 3-year tour after which he would begin private practice. However, fulfillment of that promise was delayed as they next moved to Wertheim, West Germany, where Dr. Sundberg was in charge of the community dental clinic for three years.
In 1996, Dr. Sundberg completed two additional years of training in the various specialty areas of dentistry and earned dual board certifications with the Federal Services Board of General Dentistry and the American Board of General Dentistry. After additional advanced practice, he received his Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry and became the Director of the Advanced Education in General Dentistry two-year residency program for the Army's Pacific Region in Hawaii.
While there, Dr. Sundberg was selected for further residency training, this time in the specialty of orthodontics. After two years of intensive training, he received his certificate in orthodontics from the Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. While on active duty at the Western Regional Dental Command and Madigan Army Medical Center located on Joint Base Lewis – McChord, Dr. Sundberg maintained a full-time surgical-orthodontic practice serving Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine and US Coast Guard personnel located in the Pacific Northwest.
Dr. Sundberg has finally fulfilled his original promise to his wife. After a highly successful and diverse career in dentistry and orthodontics, he retired from active duty in 2009 and teamed up with Dr. Brent Hassel at Pacific Northwest Orthodontics. Upon Dr. Hassel's retirement in November 2010, Dr. Sundberg assumed full responsibility for patient care.
Dr. Sundberg is committed to advanced orthodontic techniques. He maintains memberships with several professional organizations, including: the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, American Association of Orthodontists, Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, Washington State Dental Association, Thurston County Dental Society, Pierce County Dental Society and local dental study groups. He is also involved in various orthodontic study clubs.
The Sundbergs have been married for over 25 years and have two sons. They enjoy hikes with friends, a good campfire, bogey golf, and summers in the Northwest. The family is active in scouting, their church, local schools and community service. The Sundbergs are pleased to have the privilege of caring for people and the responsibility for serving our great communities in western Washington.
Dr. Sundberg looks forward to meeting you and seeing your smile!
